Every film gets smaller between the page and the screen. The location becomes a room someone lent you. The crowd becomes six friends who were free that weekend. The third act becomes a conversation about the third act. Budget is the quiet co-writer nobody credits, and it rewrites more scripts than any producer ever has.
Y-O-X exists to remove that negotiation. Not to make filmmaking cheaper — cheaper still means choosing — but to stop the constraint applying at the point where it does the most damage, which is the moment a director decides not to write something because they already know they will not be able to shoot it. That decision happens silently, before anyone else sees the script, and it is the single largest uncredited edit in independent film.
This is the argument the rest of the site is built on. The limiting factor in independent film has never been talent, ambition or access to an audience. It is that the distance between what a filmmaker can imagine and what they can execute is set almost entirely by money, and that every tool built for the industry so far has accepted that distance as a fact of nature rather than a problem to solve. A system that only speeds up post-production is optimising the half of the process that was never the difficulty.

Y-O-X doesn't take the craft out of it.
You cast it. You choose where it happens, where the camera sits, how long the shot holds, what it sounds like. What it takes out is the part where you find out you can't have what you wrote.
